Why Do They Act Like That?

Why do people behave in evil ways, like those who murder innocents in high school cafeterias?
Because of sin. That's why.
I've said it hundreds of times, and will continue to say it:
We can never expect lost people to act as if they are not lost.
Period.
Let me put an illustration in your head, if I may.
Picture a pizza, cut into 10 pieces. Let's say one slice of that pizza represents all of the people alive right now who have accepted God's free gift of grace through Jesus Christ, and are "saved" [Romans 10:8-10]. That means the other 9 pieces represent all the people in the world at this moment who have not accepted Christ Jesus as Savior.
No matter how you look at it, that includes Muslims, Jews who reject Jesus as Messiah, atheists, Buddhists, etc., etc., etc.
Take any sin you can possibly think of that a lost person may commit.
Pour those sins onto your 9 slices of "lost" pizza. Why do lost people commit those sins?
Because they are lost.
Let me say it again: Because ... they ... are ... lost.
Now the saved people on your one piece of pizza are still sinners, saved by grace. I know, some say, "No, they're not! They're saints and sinners no more!" True, but we are still creatures that, according to Paul, are capable of doing things we wish we did not do (committing sin) and not doing the things we should (sins of omission).
Saved people should not (and do not) live their lives in continual, habitual sin, and have a right relationship with God.
Saved people sin because saved people are still tempted, and still able to sin, and are not yet perfected in Christ. So sometimes we sin. We should be ashamed, repentant, and grateful for the grace that God gives to cover and forgive us.
Lost people sin because it's what they do.
What should we do?
How should we treat lost people? Like they're lost; like they're enemies of God!
How should we treat enemies of God? LOVE THEM!!!!
Jesus said men could have no greater love than to lay down their lives for a friend. Then Jesus gave up His life for His enemies. While we were still the enemies of God, Christ died for us.
That is actually WHY He died. Because we needed reconciliation to God.
Don't marvel at why lost people, fully in the grip of Satan whether they know it or deny it or don't even believe in him, act like who they are.
Pray for them. Love them to Jesus.
